We usually begin within 48–72 hours post-op or as your surgeon permits; early MLD reduces swelling and fibrosis. Always get clearance from your surgeon first. Sessions are scheduled two to three times weekly initially, tailored to your healing.
Sessions typically last 45–60 minutes, focusing on surgical areas and drainage pathways. The full ten-session program is staged over several weeks depending on healing, often twice weekly initially then spaced out for cumulative benefits.
MLD is gentle, using light, rhythmic strokes; most clients experience relaxation rather than pain. You may feel mild tenderness or increased urination as fluid shifts. Communicate any discomfort—therapist adjusts pressure and techniques for safety and comfort.
Contraindications include untreated infections, active blood clots, uncontrolled heart failure, or certain cancer conditions. Always disclose medical history and surgical details; we coordinate with your surgeon and may require clearance before starting treatment.
Many clients notice reduced swelling and improved comfort after the first two to three sessions; more significant contour refinement and softness develop progressively across the ten-session course and continue improving over subsequent weeks.
Hydrate well, eat a balanced diet, and avoid heavy exercise or heat for recommended periods. Wear compression garments if prescribed, practice gentle movement and breathing, and follow therapist and surgeon guidance to maximize drainage and recovery.
